Dorothy Irene Turner, 96, of Decatur, IL passed away on Saturday (Sept. 10, 2011) at McKinley Court with her daughter by her side.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 24, 2011) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church or Elks Children.
Mrs. Turner was born on May 29, 1915 in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of George and Minnie (Robinson) Lower. Dorothy was a licensed beautician in Shelbyville, IL and worked as a hostess at the Orlando Hotel, Ambassador Hotel and the Elks Club. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Elks Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Golf League. Dorothy had married James Tubb, Glen “Fuzz” Foster, Oliver “Curly” Bower and Edward Turner.
Surviving is her son: Charles James (Lucille) Tubb of Gold Canyon, AZ; daughter: Jo Ellen Tamen of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Gay (Randy) Bollhorst of Mt. Zion, IL, James G. Tubb of Mesa, AZ, April Rubenacker of Mt. Vernon, IL, Eric Tamen of Mt. Vernon, IL, Bradley Tamen of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jodi Tamen of West Frankfort, IL; eight great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Lola Lower of Moweaqua, IL; five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: James Tubb, Oliver “Curly” Bower, Edward Turner, brothers: Max Lower, Charles Lower, Merlyn Lower, granddaughter: Mickey Jones.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at McKinley Court for their loving care these past two years.

My condolences, as feelings of pain and bitterness become unbearable. It is my desire to convey a comforting thought based on the Holy Scriptures
John 5:28 "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."
This passage speaks of the resurrection of our loved ones. It is not God's plan to see us suffer and die, so He extends the following invitation to us: "Come near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8)

Dear Jo, Jim, and family,
I have loved since I was ten years old knowing your lovely Mother. She was my neighbor and Mother of my friend and buddy, Jo. We had many times of fun putting color rinses on our hair when the shop was closed making ourselves glamorous! Or so we thought! Dorothy would always just smile at our fun. I send you all my sympathy and loving memories of a special lady in my life.
